Alaska Day postponed in Sitka

    Sitka, Alaska (KINY) - The Trustees of the Alaska Day Festival decided to postpone the 2020 celebration scheduled for October 18 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Officials said they have been debating and discussing the issue for months.

    The Alaska Day features a weeklong set of activities in Sitka. They include a parade, a traditional re-enactment ceremony, a formal ball, a variety show, and an Army Band concert.

    Vice-Chair Steve Dalquist said they are confident they can return next year, "Mark your calendars now for 2021."
