Assembly won't pursue West Douglas Pioneer Road

    Mayor Beth Weldon.

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The CBJ Assembly Finance Committee took $5 million to extend the West Douglas Pioneer road out of a proposed $15 million bond issue they want to pursue this year.

Mayor Beth Weldon proposed the change.  Instead, she would like funds to be spent on streets, building maintenance, and energy efficiency projects.

She said these types of projects would likely lead to more jobs in the community.

Funds would still be set aside for three roof projects, and for park improvements.

The plan was to spend $5 million on schools and $5 million on parks.

The recommendation to remove the road was approved unanimously.

The terms of the bond issue must be approved by August 3 to make the October 6 election ballot.
