Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Sewer systems across the country and in Juneau could be clogged by disinfecting wipes, gloves and toilet paper.
The CBJ urged residents to stop flushing disinfecting wipes and gloves down the toilet.
The wipes, gloves, paper towels, and other similar materials do not disintegrate properly as toilet paper does.
Utility officials said they can clog pipes, cause sewer lines to break, and put a strain on the wastewater treatment facility.
Other items that should never be flushed: tampon applicators, sanitary napkins medication, hair, dental floss, cotton swabs/balls, bandages, rags or towels, any plastic items, and fats, oils, and grease. These also cause issues with the sewer system.
