Ketchikan resident tests positive for COVID-19

    Ketchikan, Alaska (KINY) - A local health clinic confirmed a Ketchikan resident who recently traveled outside the state tested positive for COVID-19.

    There were three new cases announced in Ketchikan on Monday.

    The cumulative case count including travelers now stands at 39 in the community.  35 of these cases are of individuals who reside or are staying in Ketchikan.

    There are five active cases and 30 people have recovered from the virus.

    Officials said the latest case involved a person who returned to Ketchikan on July 19 and sought testing at a local clinic.  The patient has reported some mild symptoms and has been directed to isolate. 

    A contact investigation has also begun involving the public health department.
