New Ketchikan COVID-19 case is result of close contact

    Ketchikan, Alaska (KINY) - One new positive case of COVID-19 was identified in Ketchikan on Tuesday.

    This person was a close contact of an individual who had previously tested positive and was identified through testing.

    The individual is asymptomatic and is isolating.

    Public Health officials have begun contact investigations. Public Health will notify and quarantine additional persons as appropriate.

    Through the contact investigation, Public Health will direct testing of persons that meet criteria based on contact with any confirmed case of COVID-19. Individuals who meet the criteria are being tested in accordance with the CDC and State of Alaska priorities.

    Today’s cases bring the cumulative COVID-19 case count, including travelers, to 47.  The number of positive cases of individuals residing or staying in Ketchikan is 42. Of the 42 cases, 10 are still active, and 32 have recovered.
