Seattle Kraken to take the ice next year

The new logo of the Seattle Kraken.

Seattle, Washington (KINY) - The Seattle National Hockey League team will be named the Kraken, after a mythical sea monster that destroyed ships.

Wikipedia reports the Kraken dwells off the coast of Norway and Greenland and is a tale in Scandinavian folklore.

Authors over the years have theorized the legend originated from the sightings of giant squids that grow as long as 50 feet.

The primary logo of the team features a green tentacle shaped like an S.

A second logo uses the iconic Space Needle.

The team colors will feature four different shades of blue including deep sea, ice, shadow and boundless.
