Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The acting chancellor for the University of Alaska Southeast will be Dr. Karen Carey.
The announcement comes from Acting University President Michelle Rizk.
She takes over July 1 from Chancellor Rick Caulfield following his retirement at the end of the month.
The acting position was necessary after the search for a permanent replacement was put on hold with a decision by the Board of Regents to conduct a study on possibly merging UAS with the school in Fairbanks.
Carey currently serves as Provost at UAS.
She joined the University of Alaska Southeast as Provost four years ago this week. Carey earned her Ph.D. in School Psychology from University of Cincinnati, and came to UAS from the California State University Channel Islands, in Ventura, California, where she served as the Dean of Arts & Sciences.
