Body found by Ferry Terminal idenified as missing man

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau authorities have identified the body found at the ferry terminal as Joseph Michael Clayton.

    Clayton had went missing in late August after he left his father's residence for a hike with the plan to head up Perseverance and then go up to the Granite Creek Trail, he did not return that evening.

    Last week, department of transportation workers were checking on downed trees across from the area of the Auke Bay Ferry Terminal following the high wind storm.

    An employee with DOT and said they found a body in the woods, the body was reported to Juneau Police. The body was located within 100 feet of Glacier Highway, up a steep embankment. An old makeshift campsite was also found near the body.

    police could not identify the body at that time due to the extensive length of time it is believed the body has been outside.

    On Tuesday morning, Medical Examiners have positively identified the found body as the 48-year-old Clayton.

    Next of kin has been notified.
