Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - A new Capital City Fire Rescue ambulance put into service today had a certain Northwest Coast formline design.

The Unity Group provided $10,000 to pay for the artwork.  The Unity Group is made up of Douglas Indian Association, Goldbelt, Huna Totem Corporation, Kootznoowoo, Sealaska Heritage Institute, Sealaska, SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, Central Council of the Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska, and Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority.

The Healing Hand and Spirit Face were designed by Juneau Tlingit Artist Crystal Worl and Sitka Tlingit Artist Mary Goddard.

Speakers at the ceremony included Fire Chief Rich Etheridge, Mayor Beth Weldon, Barbara Cadiente-Nelson, representing the Douglas Indian Association, and tribal elders Paul Marks and David Katzeek.

CCFR’s goal with the newly refurbished ambulance is to be more inclusive and representative of the Juneau community.
