Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Lena Beach picnic area project is a wrap.
Juneau Ranger Brad Orr said Action Line Wednesday that there was a final inspection Tuesday. "When I arrived six and a half years ago and looked at that site it was just an old, tired, worn out site that really needed a complete renovation. So we started planning for that about then and all these years later, we're happy to announce that it's done."
The project which has been several years under construction incudes five shelters, two uncovered picnic tables, three restrooms, and a kayak launch area with parking throughout the area.
Orr said the large shelter will be made available for reservation at no charge this summer for four hour increments. The ranger figures they'll start charging a reservation fee next year.
