Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Pope Francis has given the bishop of the Diocese of Juneau additional duties in Alaska.
Bishop Andrew Bellisario will serve as the administrator of the Anchorage Diocese until the Pope appoints a new archbishop. Archbishop Paul Etienne was appointed the archbishop of Seattle earlier this summer.
Bishop Bellisario was a priest in Anchorage when he was appointed by the Pope to serve as bishop. He was asked if that might have been a factor for this most recent appointment. "I guess they saw that as being helpful. I was in Anchorage for two years."
The bishop said it has been challenging dealing with his responsibilities in the Diocese of Juneau and now in Anchorage. He said it has been demanding in a good sense since the people and priests in Anchorage are wonderful.
