Public gets chance to chime in on Juneau School District budget

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau School Board conducts a public hearing on the budget Tuesday evening.

Board Vice President Elizabeth Siddon talked about that on Action Line.   She said the hearing was rescheduled due to last week's snow day.

She was asked what she expects to hear from citizens.   "We often hear things like a desire to lower class sizes.  We had a super site council meeting where we invite all of the school site council members to join us and have a conversation about what things are critical.  What do we need to fund?  What things could we cut?  That's always a very short list of things people can come up with and what in an ideal world if we had extra funding would you want  to see new or added that we've cut in the past."

The public hearing on the school district budget is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dzantik'l Heeni Middle School Library from 6 to 8 p.m.

The board has scheduled a budget work session Saturday morning from 8:30 to Noon in Room 206 at Juneau Douglas High School.
